Real screens from TapeDeck

Every recording in TapeDeck is a tape with four tracks. Start with a voice note, add a harmony on the next free track, punch in a fix, then send stems that line up in any DAW. Offline, with no account and no subscription.

Features

Everything a four‑track needs.

And nothing that gets between you and the take. A voice note uses one track, layering fills the rest, and there is no studio mode to switch to.

    Takes you can trust

Recording carries on with the screen off. Takes are saved every 2 seconds and recovered if the app is interrupted, and a call ends a take cleanly.

How it works

Every recording is a tape with four tracks.

There is nothing to import. Try the deck: it is a silent copy of TapeDeck's, and it layers, retakes, undoes and bounces the way the app does.

  1. 01

    Record

Tap the big button on the home screen, the Record shortcut on your launcher, or the Quick Settings tile. The tape starts rolling.

  2. 02

    Layer

Open a tape and record again. The take goes on the next free track while the others play, and TapeDeck lines it up.

  3. 03

    Fix

Punch in from the playhead with a 2‑second pre-roll, retake the last take, or undo the last edit.

  4. 04

    Send to studio

Every track separately and already lined up, plus the mix — ready for REAPER or any DAW. Or share just the mix, or a small voice note.

Deep dive

Built like a deck, not a DAW.

Every picture in this section is a real screen from the app, cropped.

01 — Layering

Every take on its own track.

Record, then press record again: the new take goes on the next free track while you hear the others. TapeDeck measures the delay between what you hear and what it records, and places the take to match without rewriting the audio. If a part still feels early or late, nudge that track, or set a correction for every new take in Settings.

In the app · zoomed in, layering onto track 4
02 — Punch-in, retake, undo

Fix one line, not the whole take.

Pause where the mistake starts, select the track and record. You hear two seconds before the punch point, and only the part you play is replaced. Retake throws the last take away and records it again from the same spot with one tap, and Undo steps back one edit, whether that was a take, a punch-in, a bounce or a crop.

Punching in on track 1: the counter and meters in orange, REC at 48 kHz, and the newly recorded part of the take in orange
In the app · punching in on track 1
03 — Bounce and crop

Four tracks full? Bounce and keep going.

Bounce mixes the tracks you pick into the lowest one, with their faders and pan, and frees the others, like ping-ponging on a tape four-track. When all four tracks are full, TapeDeck asks before it records: bounce, or record over a track you choose. Crop keeps the part of the tape you want and drops the rest.

The All four tracks are full sheet: Bounce tracks, which undo can reverse, or Record over Drums
In the app · a full tape asks before it records
04 — Mixer

A channel strip for every track.

Each of the four tracks has a pan knob, a fader with its own meter, and mute and solo. Changes are heard straight away, saved with the tape, and carried over when you send the tape to your studio.

05 — Click

A click you hear and never record.

Set the tempo with the buttons or tap it in, then turn on the metronome while you play and record, or a one-bar count-in before recording starts. The click only plays in your speaker or headphones: it is never recorded or exported.

06 — Send to studio

Stems that line up at bar 1.

Each track exports separately, already lined up, so they line up at bar 1 in any DAW. You also get the mix as you heard it, with your faders, pan, mute and solo carried over, ready to import into REAPER, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, GarageBand or similar software. Share it from the app or save it to a folder.

In the app · Send to studio
07 — Input

Phone mic or USB. Music or Voice.

Music keeps the mic's raw sound where your phone supports it, for instruments and singing. Voice adds noise suppression and automatic gain for notes and meetings, and Boost lifts quiet sources. Plug in a USB audio interface, a synth or an OP-1 and TapeDeck switches to it automatically, in stereo when the device offers it. Unplug it and the phone mic takes over again.

Graphite and Paper

Dark for the studio. Paper for daylight.

TapeDeck starts in Graphite, because waveforms and meters read best on a dark deck. Switch to Paper, or let it follow your phone's theme.

FAQ

Questions.

When can I buy TapeDeck?

Not yet. Leave your email on the notify form and we will tell you when it is in the stores.

Does TapeDeck need an account or the internet?

No. There is no account, and the app has no internet permission at all. Your tapes stay on your phone until you share them.

What happens when all four tracks are full?

TapeDeck asks whether to bounce tracks together to free some up, or to record over a track you pick. It never overwrites a track without asking.

Will layered takes line up?

TapeDeck measures the timing automatically and places each take to match. You can also nudge any track slightly if it still feels early or late. Wear headphones to keep the backing out of the new take.

What do I get when I send a tape to my studio?

A set of files with each track separate and already lined up, plus the mix as you heard it — ready to import into REAPER, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, GarageBand or similar software.

Does it work with a USB audio interface or an OP-1?

Yes. Plug one in and TapeDeck switches to it automatically, then back to the phone mic when you unplug.

Is there a subscription or ads?

No. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and no subscription.
